Happy mother's day. As my gift, my husband tilled our garden and our family spent the evening planting. Earlier, I ordered seeds from http://www.johnnyseeds.com/. It is my first time using the company and I am excited to see how their varieties produce.
So far we have planted four rows of Xtra-tender brand corn, and two rows each of Jade snap bush beans and E-Z pick snap bush beans. My husband and niece also planted several rows of onion starts from Wal-mart.
We still need to plant all the vines - squash and melons and purchase our live plants of tomatoes and peppers.
Notes From the Author
I hope to use this blog as a diary of sorts, in order to document my quest of perfecting my skills. Areas that I am particularly fond of include: photography, gardening, cooking - baking -canning, painting - sketching and of course writing. Like so many others, the word 'perfection' haunts me. I strive to reach it daily not truly knowing what it is or how to achieve it. Yet, I won't settle for less. Here is my blog showing my struggles and my hopeful successes. I don't need to be perfect but I must try to ascertain it.

Journal Entry - Plantings in Veggie Garden
With the help of my daughter, we cleaned out one of our raised beds and freshened the soil by mixing in compost. Then, we placed a metal fence, (which I'd purchased years ago for when my dogs where puppies as a 'play pen')down the middle of the bed. We planted Sugar Snap peas on either side of the fence and Butter Crunch Lettuce towards the outer edge of the bed - along with two other varieties of lettuces (green butterhead and black seeded simpson), two varieties of carrots (Nelson early), spinach (EMU smooth leaf), and cilantro.
